The Stormwater and Flooding Committee will hold a meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, in the Bethany Beach Town Meeting Room, 214 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.

The Meeting room is open to the public.

AGENDA

  1. Call to order
  2. Approval of the Agenda 
  3. Approval of the minutes from the January 11, 2023, meeting
  4. Update on Steel Gate Dam project (Town Manager)
  5. Update on status of beach replenishment – Mobilization and Beach fill will be working south from Rehoboth. Bethany Beach fill start date is the end of April / early May. Most dune crossovers are open
  6. Update on Back Bay Study. USACE starting and to reach out to municipalities
  7. Recent Town soil Boring Study completed
  8. The Sea Grant Study is underway to provide an update of the 2012 study on the “The Contribution of the Coastal Economy to the State of Delaware”. Bethany has initiated the restudy and most ACT towns will probably be contributing
  9. Update of Loop Canal Bulkhead, Living Shoreline and Dredging projects – Bathometric survey has been conducted of the Loop Canal with good results and a few points of shallow water detected. Bulkhead and live shoreline preliminary design in progress
  10. Update on status of “Greening of Bethany Initiative”
  11. Discussion of new Impervious Surfaces Ordinance Amendments 425-27 and 425-5 – and possible follow up “adjusted best practices” to conform with them. These adjusted practices should emphasize the importance of reducing street run off, nuisance flooding, the “Greening of Bethany Initiative”, and pollution. With committee agreement this will go to Council for approval
  12. Discuss development of communications strategy and procedures to educate and inform citizens on flooding and pollution issues as well as ongoing town projects and plans. Considering “A” frame signage displayed at town events and means to disseminate copies of “Best Practices”
  13. Discussion of new DelDOT Route 1 initiative and how this may impact Bethany Beach (Town Manager)
  14. Discuss individual research of flood studies in other areas
  15. New Business
  16. Adjourn
