Yard Waste Schedule

Yard waste must be placed in a clearly marked "Yard Waste" container, paper yard waste bags, or compostable plastic bags. Paper yard waste bags can be purchased at local hardware stores, local grocery stores, or home improvement stores. Compostable plastic bags (made of plant fiber) can be purchased on the internet. Limbs must be tied into bundles no larger than 5 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter. No regular plastic bags or biodegradable plastic bags will be taken after May 13th.


January 1st to December 31st

  • Collections are year-round every Tuesday with carryover to Wednesday AM as needed
  • Brush piles should be tied in bundles, no longer than FIVE (5) feet in length and small enough and light enough for one individual to handle
  • Grass Clippings must be placed in recyclable paper yard waste bags or in containers 32 gallons or less that are clearly marked as yard waste on the outside of the container. Filled containers and recyclable bags shall not weigh more than 50 pounds
  • Leaves must be placed in recyclable paper yard waste bags or in containers 32 gallons or less that are clearly marked as yard waste on the outside of the container. Filled containers and recyclable bags shall not weigh more than 50 pounds
  • Limbs and tree trimmings must not be any longer than FIVE (5) feet in length and no larger than THREE (3) inches in diameter. Limbs should be tied together and separated into bundles small enough and light enough for one individual to handle
  • Logs are no longer permitted in yard waste
  • No regular plastic bags or biodegradable plastic bags will be taken after May 13th
  • If your yard waste does not comply with pick-up, please call Town Hall at 302-539-8011 to arrange for a special collection. A $50 minimum charge will apply

We happily accept:

  • Grass clippings and leaves
  • Limbs and tree trimmings
  • Plants, weeds, and shrubbery

We cannot accept:

  • Dirt and rocks
  • Treated lumber and wood
  • Tree stumps and tree trunks
  • Logs
  • Any yard waste in plastic bags

Hazardous household waste must be taken to the DSWA facility by homeowners. Hazardous household waste is only accepted on specific dates throughout the year. Please refer to the DSWA website for information and dates when household hazardous waste is accepted.
