The Stormwater and Flooding Committee will hold a meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in the Bethany Beach Town Meeting Room, 214 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.

The Meeting room is open to the public.

  2. Introduction of new committee member Matt Kirks
     
  3. Approval of the Agenda
     
  4. Approval of the Minutes from March 20, 2023, meeting

  5. Introduction and Presentation: Living Shorelines, Bob Collins, Manager, Programs & Facilities, Delaware Center of the Inland Bays. Bethany has an upcoming Living Shoreline

  6. Update on status of beach replenishment – Mobilization and Beach fill is in progress in Rehoboth/Dewey, moving south, and is scheduled for Bethany Beach starting Mid Late May / Early June. Most dune crossovers are open. (Town Manager)

  7. Loop Canal/Assawoman Canal Bladder Flap Dam- Engineering studies continue addressing local questions. Lidar survey completed. (Town Manager)

  8. Update on Back Bay Study. USACE and DNREC conducted a Charrette in early April with local municipalities. Preliminary review starting.

  9. Sea Grant Study underway to provide an update of the 2012 study on “The Contribution of the Coastal Economy to the State of Delaware”. Initial package planned for late May. 

  10. Update of the Loop Canal Bulkhead, Living Shoreline and Dredging projects- Lidar survey has been conducted of the Loop Canal. Planned fall implementation. (Town Manager)

  11. Update on the status of “Greening of Bethany Initiative”

  12. Discussion of “adjusted best practices” to conform with new ordinances. These adjusted practices to also be provided in abbreviated “Bullet” form for pamphlet presentation.

  13. Discuss development of communications strategy and procedures to educate and inform citizens on flooding and pollution issues as well as ongoing Town projects and plans. Preparing pamphlet with “Bullet form” best practices as well as photos. Considering “A” frame signage displayed at Town events and means to disseminate copies of “Best Practices”. Target late summer/early fall. 

  14. Discussion of new DelDOT Route 1 initiative and how this may impact Bethany Beach. (Town Manager)

  15. Discuss individual research of flood studies in other areas.
