Overview
The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program is part of the USA Freedom Corps initiative and shares the common goal of helping communities prepare for, and respond to crime, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
Our VIPS program was implemented in July 2006 and is intended to promote partnership between community volunteers and our police staff. Volunteers' diversity of skills, abilities, education, life experiences, and their willingness to donate their time are the basis for VIPS to succeed.
Although our VIPS is in its infancy, we plan to utilize volunteers to perform a wide variety of responsible duties that allow our full-time officers to focus on specialized tasks and better manage their daily demands. Volunteers are provided with on-the-job training, and are considered a valuable resource to keep a high level of visibility for the Bethany Beach Police Department.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Cpl. Patrick Foley at 539-1000.
